History
Eastmoreland is one of Portland's most carefully planned residential neighborhoods, laid out in the 1910s as an upscale streetcar suburb on the city's southeast side. Developed with curving, tree-lined streets and generous lots, it was designed as a garden-style community and built out over the following decades with substantial, architecturally distinctive homes.
The neighborhood grew up alongside Reed College, whose wooded campus borders it, and the Eastmoreland Golf Course, a public course that has anchored the area's green, leafy character since the 1910s. The nearby Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden adds to the abundance of mature landscape that defines the district.
Today Eastmoreland is among Portland's most prestigious and stable neighborhoods, prized for its grand old homes, its towering canopy of mature trees, and its proximity to Reed College and the surrounding parks and gardens.
