About
The Willamette neighborhood occupies West Linn's historic downtown core along Willamette Falls Drive, perched on the bluff above Willamette Falls — the largest waterfall by volume in the Pacific Northwest. The area was one of the first settled communities in Oregon Territory, and its Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, recognized for its exceptional collection of Victorian and early-twentieth-century American architectural styles that have remained largely intact.
Historic Willamette Main Street is a nationally accredited Main Street program stewarded by a dedicated organization (historicwillamette.com) that promotes and preserves the district. The program coordinates signature community events: Wednesdays in Willamette summer market, Small Business Saturday, and Business Bingo. Anchor businesses include J. Willy's Public House & Eatery (1717 Willamette Falls Dr) — a locally owned pub with artisan pizza and specialty salads — and Willamette Garage, a food cart cluster with covered, lighted seating. The Vintage West Linn, a white bungalow shop filled with rotating vintage goods and handmade items from local artisans, anchors the retail mix.
The Willamette Neighborhood Association meets monthly, and the district has strong civic engagement relative to its small commercial footprint. The Falls themselves, visible from the bluff, are a sacred site for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and continue to draw visitors who combine history tourism with the neighborhood's dining and retail offerings.
