About
Mt. Scott-Arleta sits in southeast Portland between SE Foster Rd to the north, SE 60th Ave to the west, SE 82nd Ave to the east, and SE Duke St to the south. The neighborhood takes its dual name from the extinct volcanic butte that rises in its southern portion and the Arleta streetcar stop that once anchored its commercial heart at SE 72nd Ave and Woodstock Blvd.
Foster Road is the neighborhood's most active commercial spine. Portland Mercado at 7238 SE Foster Rd opened in 2015 as a Latino economic development hub — a collection of food carts, a commissary kitchen, grocery, butcher shop, and coffee roaster representing flavors from Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, and El Salvador. A fire damaged the original Mercado building; the community rallied with $255,000+ in donations to rebuild. The reimagined site will include enhanced commercial space and a rooftop terrace.
The Arleta Triangle Square at SE 72nd and Woodstock is a community plaza built to reclaim street space, featuring rainbow-colored ground, picnic tables, and native plantings. Arleta Library Bakery Cafe is a neighborhood institution. Red Castle Games at 7160 SE Foster Rd anchors the tabletop gaming community. Fat Cupcake bakery has operated at 6011 SE 72nd Ave since 2014. Hammer + Jacks toy store is at 6416 SE Foster. The neighborhood is served by TriMet bus 14 (Foster) and 17.
Boundaries: Bounded by SE Foster Rd to the north, SE 82nd Ave to the east, SE Duke St to the south, and SE 60th Ave to the west. Adjacent to Creston-Kenilworth and Woodstock (northwest), Lents (east), Brentwood-Darlington (south), and Foster-Powell (north).
