About
Downtown Beaverton has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade. What was once a mid-century suburban core has evolved into one of the Portland metro's most dynamic dining and retail destinations. The city's strategic investment in urban renewal — including storefront improvement grants and the development of the Beaverton Round mixed-use complex — seeded a restaurant boom that earned coverage from The New York Times and Portland Monthly alike.
The heart of the action is Watson Avenue between the MAX light rail tracks and Beaverton City Park, now known informally as "Restaurant Row." Mornings begin at Lionheart Coffee; daytime workers gather at La Floridita for cafecitos or Nak Won for Korean fare; evenings roar with craft beer at Loyal Legion and inventive vegan cocktails at June Bar. The 1st Street Dining Commons, an outdoor communal plaza, anchors the social life of the district year-round.
The BG Food Cartel, directly across from City Hall, houses 31 food carts spanning cuisines from Ethiopian to Filipino to Mexican street tacos. Hapa Pizza — one of the New York Times' Top 22 pizzerias in the country — operates out of this district. Retail on SW 1st Street mixes vintage shops, guitar stores, and specialty housewares within easy walking distance. The MAX Blue Line runs directly through downtown, making Beaverton a legitimate car-free destination from Portland.
Boundaries: Roughly bordered by SW Farmington Rd to the north, SW Allen Blvd to the south, SW Murray Blvd to the east, and SW 5th St to the west. The MAX Blue Line runs east-west through the district along SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy.
