About
Collins View is one of Southwest Portland's most geographically distinctive neighborhoods — bounded by two of the most scenic roads in the city, SW Terwilliger Blvd and SW Boones Ferry Rd, both hilly, winding, and canopied by old-growth trees. The neighborhood feels almost rural within Portland city limits: there is no commercial main street, traffic is light, and the primary visual impression is of forest and sky.
Lewis & Clark College (615 S Palatine Hill Rd) occupies the southeastern portion of the neighborhood atop Palatine Hill, on the historic M. Lloyd Frank Estate. Founded in 1867, Lewis & Clark is a private liberal arts college and law school whose campus blends an Olmstedian landscape design with Frank family mansion architecture. Riverdale High School also anchors the area. Both institutions give Collins View a subtle academic character despite its residential quietude.
Tryon Creek State Natural Area (11321 SW Terwilliger Blvd) — Oregon's only urban state park — runs along the neighborhood's eastern edge, providing 8 miles of trails, horse paths, and nature programs. A long-standing neighborhood market on Boones Ferry Rd (described by residents as a staple since the 1930s or 40s) anchors the sliver of commercial activity. The Collins View Neighborhood Association maintains an active community website at collinsviewna.org.
Boundaries: Bordered by SW Terwilliger Blvd to the east, SW Boones Ferry Rd to the west, Far Southwest to the south, and South Burlingame / Dunthorpe to the north. Adjacent to Arnold Creek, Far Southwest, and the unincorporated Dunthorpe area.
