We brought our older Honda Pilot to Maaco for a full repaint after the factory paint and clear coat started peeling badly on the roof, hood, and rear. Other shops quoted us close to $10,000, which didn’t make sense for the age of the vehicle. We knew this was a budget-friendly paint job, not a show-car respray, so we expected some overspray and minor imperfections. For the price, we’re really happy with how the color and overall finish turned out. The truck looks dramatically better and the peeling and rusted areas are gone. After we picked it up and were reinstalling the roof rack, we noticed about a half-inch crack in the paint on the roof where the paint could be lifted. We called right away and they told us to bring it back in. They looked at it, owned the mistake, had us drop it off the next day, and completely repainted the roof properly within the 48 hours they promised. They even thanked us for giving them the chance to fix it, which really impressed us. A couple of things to be aware of so future customers can plan ahead. When my husband got the quote, he was told our window and sunroof visors would be removed. Instead, they were taped and painted around, so under those visors the original color is still visible. It’s not a dealbreaker for us given the price, but if you want trim, visors, or accessories removed, I recommend taking them off yourself before you drop the vehicle off. They did remove the Honda emblems as part of the paint job, which we expected. One thing we didn’t think about was the smell inside afterward. Because they had to remove some windows to do the job, the interior smelled strongly of paint for a while. It has been fading, but it’s something to know if you’re sensitive to smells or need to transport kids right away. Overall, the team at Maaco was helpful, responsive, and cared about making it right when something went wrong. For a paint job that cost roughly a quarter of the other quotes we received, we feel like we got very good value and a huge visual upgrade for our Honda Pilot. We’re giving them 5 stars for the combination of price, end result, and how they handled the mistake.
